Pinch/Pull International Grip Contest, 29 September 2012

by adam on August 9, 2012

I am currently sorting the details for an international contest for next month, this is the plan.

A 2 event contest, testing two of the most popular grip strength events.
Two hand pinch lift on the adjustable European apparatus and overhand axle deadlift with the Ironmind Apollons Axle.

Format will be very smooth. Two hand pinch, flip for width high to low or low to high. 4 attempts per competitor

From there it will be overhand axle deadlift, opening weight 220 lbs and from there 10 lbs jumps in a last man standing format.

Host list

Adam Glass, Minneapolis
Juha Harju, Kirkkonummi, Finland
Andrew Durniat, Wooster
Dan Reinard, Bay Area
Mark Dy, UK (details pending)
Mike Sheehan, Bosten
Jarrod Riordan, Victoria, Australia

If you would like to join in, here is what you need to have for a site
- A standard European Two Hand Pinch Apparatus
- An Ironmind Apollons Axle
- All plates measured on a certified scale
- A point calibrated scale for competitors

Scoring will be according to the NAGSA system, there will be two lists. List 1 is for the local contest, list 2 is the global score with everyone ranked by weight class and by total score.

Looking forward to seeing big numbers from all competitors!

Is everyone pulling every weight up from 220# on the axle? Or are skips allowed. Pulling every 10# is going to make a fun competition.

Lifters can pass any given round, and lifting the opening weight is not required. Score is centered on last successful lift, same format as the Viking contest

good stuff. will there be a standard entry fee?

re: last man standing format. will everyone be required to attempt every weight as it ratchets up? or could one start at 300# and go up from there?

also, explain the width options on the pinch.

adam August 9, 2012 at 2:01 pm

No entry fee’s required for this contest

On pinch width, competitors will select weights prior to contest, specifics will be decided by the local host. standard widths are 44,48,52,54,58,64

On LMS, you may pass any given jump, so yes you can jump in any any particular weight and only take the jumps you want. Your score is set off of the last successful lift you executed

This will be exciting. An excellent day to use what you taught on your new DVD!

Will this be posted to the gripboard?

chuck August 20, 2012 at 2:28 pm

sorry to be a pain in the ass. is this official yet? is it gonna happen?

adam August 21, 2012 at 1:58 pm

Chuck, yes i’ll put up an updated location of sites. Where are you located at bro?

adam August 21, 2012 at 1:58 pm

BTW that doesn’t make you a pain in the ass, I want as many people to lift as possible in the contest :-)

i am in akron, oh, will go down to wooster. i just thought i would see this on the gripboard by now.

Posting contests on GB is low priority for me, as the ones who live in Minneapolis never go to Gripboard, and the grip board members in Minneapolis won’t show up for meets. Nearly useless to me

Where is the Sept 29 contest going to be held?

adam August 29, 2012 at 4:04 pm

Chris, it is being held at a number of sites internationally, where are you located at?

Jodie and I are planning to be there, assuming I don’t get completely crushed by my Falls schedule–hahah.

Rock on
