5 Jan 2012 – injury update, massive griptopz performance, lots of body weight movements, gripper PR

by adam on January 5, 2012

All out of bubble gum tonight, leaves me only one option.

It would be hard to explain to a normal person how much it impacted me to not be able to train all the movements I have. I am certain this obsession with closing grippers looks fucking weird to other people. Now I can return at likely 85%, maybe better by end of month. Closing my GHP 8 tonight was a big PR in terms of returning from a huge set back. My hand is still deformed somewhat and from what I was told it will likely remain visibly different from the left for the next 2-4 years.

On the body weight stuff, I am now trying to learn the clutch flag movement. I can make a bit of movement with it, but not hold it. Bridging continues to test exceptionally well, and now pistols are returning more often. Weight today was 216.2, I want to be down to 210 by Metroflex IV to smoke a 2X BW axle deadlift.

A final note- this is the third day of Inch Farmers walks this week, with two days back to back. When I first picked up the bells I was able to lift them every 2 days. Now lifting them can be done at literally any point in the day. My sights are set on two incredible lifts- cleaning the Inch, a feat only 300+ massive dudes have done, and lifting my 221 lbs challenge bell. It has the exact same handle diameter as an inch, made as a gift from Strongergrip. So far I have only lifted one side 3 inches off the floor. It is a beast. Lifting it will be a true life time accomplishment PR…then I will farmers walk that motherfucker.

I feel you Adam.
I have loved grippers too., but for only about 2.5 years now. About 5 weeks ago I tweaked a ligament or a tendon on my right hand, both sides of my middle finger up to the knuckle were very painful, inhibiting me from pinching, hubbing, or using my beloved grippers (especially my new V2 Gripper with the Crom Spring). The worst part was that I couldn’t even do grippers with the left hand because it was painful to set with my right! I am happy to say that after giving the mitt some well deserved rest, she is coming back to life. I know it was not near as severe as your injury, but I do know I was just as pissed not being able to practice my favorite grip movements. Not to mention the pain of trying to tighten bolts and shovel at work!
Good Luck at Metroflex.

The V2 will likely inflict a lot of pain. The leverage is much more severe for the setting. That is probably the most stressful part of the event. The materials are superior, but perhaps the design is a step back from the impressive first model vulcan.
