So it’s 2012 and now you are all fired up to get your fat ass in shape. Excellent news!
Of course I still don’t get why you couldn’t start last month, oh yeah all those really important holiday parties. Those were definitely more important than taking care of your body…
A few free pearls of wisdom
- This year is not different than any other year of your life.
- If you do the same things this year as you did last year you will most likely going achieve the same things or less
- If you think more hope, more grit, or more fear has finally steeled you to action, prepare for fail.
So this month in many ways is my least favorite month as a guy who makes some money in the fitness industry. The market gets flooded with quitters with lots of false motivation and even worse lots and lots of absolute shit information is dumped across the web and media. Every chump who has been reading “Crush it” will prepare a new special report for you on how you’re doing it all wrong. How you’re doomed to fail. How they have the map, or the compass. Obey them and you will be saved…it’s all lame.
Instead I will offer a series of articles which were timely in 2011, and now simply stand as excellent starting points to make your gears turn. I am going to give you some questions. You will be the one to find the answers.
First thing, let’s see if you will even make it past 4 weeks of training. How are your expectations?
It may hurt your pride, that’s fine. Pride never helps.
Next we will look at two pieces where I reveal some key details of fat loss. Sorry, it won’t be how you need to buy a new bottle of pills or stop eating all those veggies. Instead it will first be my history, and how I sorted things out for myself. I am sure you will see many parallels between you and I.
How to lose your fat gut, a detailed history and gateway to metabolic flexibility
Modifying behavior for faster fat loss, 5 things you must try
From there I am going to tackle a few key dumb ideas you will be told by other people. Like other things, all you have to do is think a bit. For all information, it either does one of two things. It either supports facts you currently understand to be true, or it challenges an idea. The best that can happen to you is you ask more questions of yourself.
Another look at exercise form, is it cheating?
Fitness traditions, are they helping you out or holding you back?
The final thing to review, my three part series with exercise form. Specifically how all these form discussions are complete horse shit. You will notice no one can seem to address my questions in any way which invalidates them. I want you to think about these bullets the next time a guru or trainer tells you something about form.
Sacred Cows Exercise Form part 1, is it all bullshit?
Sacred Cows Exercise Form part II, it all maybe based on bullshit assumptions, what do you think?
Sacred Cows Exercise Form part III, maybe everyone has the wrong conclusion?
Maybe this helps you, maybe it doesn’t.
So I am told 80% of the people who begin a fitness program in January 2012 will have quit by March 2012. That is pretty fucking pathetic. I challenge you make your fitness and results a priority in your life. If you can do that, you win. It’s that simple.
My final request on this. Share these articles with your people. Post this to Facebook. Post this to Twitter. To your MySpace, to your Google +. Email it to your friends. Give them a chance to answer these questions. I want people to get some realistic information for a change. Let’s see what happens when they are required to think for and lead themselves.
Ah yes, I suppose I never answered one of the first questions.
“So what will allow me to succeed?”
My answer is the same
“Show Up”
Do that every day. Everyday is day 1, and you must show up on day 1 right?

Some observations I made of the past year:
-Fat people are still fat or fatter
-Out of shape people are still out of shape or in worse shape
-Negative people are still negative
And so on, so forth. People have baffling excuses to not ask themselves better questions and take better action. I know someone who’s mortally fat yet says losing weight is useless because “we will all die anyway”. WTF?
As for sharing this post, consider it done.
“We all die” try- but the quality of life while we live can be really good or really bad. Ask them if they would change anything about how they feel, I would imagine the answer is “yes”
I would say that these articles “helped me in 2011″, but the important thing is that they helped me when I read them, thought about them and implemented more ideas into testing.
Once again I will point people your way, Adam; once again I shall expect people to disappoint me.
Doesn’t stop me moving forward though.
Adam,
Strong stuff as always. You are extremely knowledgable and just as giving. Happy New Year, Adam!
