Bearhug deadlift, 326 lbs for David Horne’s Challenge Forum

Horne put up a new challenge this month, the bear hug deadlift. It is an assistance drill for stone lifting. I really like it.

The rules listed are as followed:

Bearhug Deadlift
Equipment used: The set-up for this exercise consists of using a short length of bar that fits the disc’s hole, some 15” – 18” long; depending on how many discs you are going to be lifting on it. The middle discs want to be of the same dimensions, i.e. 20k, or 15k discs, and of metal composition, not rubber discs, for contest purposes. But rubber discs can be used for training. The short length of bar goes through the discs and is fastened tightly together by collars on both ends.

Contest rules: For official rules on this lift, the row of discs have to be lifted from the floor and not a slightly raised platform, which would enable your hands to go under, and the only thing allowed on your forearms is chalk to aid with the grip. Deadlift the weight till the height of the centre bar is above the height of the middle of you knee.

Obviously your hands and forearms only can touch the outside of the discs, and not with your fingers or thumbs around the discs and aiding with the grip.

Interested in more strength and a variety in your training? Jump in and try this out.

I also had a great number of sets with my double Inch deadlift. Today was the most total lifts, and most total doubles. I recorded a few of them. I am not yet able to steady them for flowing consecutive reps, but I am happy with this improvement.

Other stuff from today- barbell overhead squats, long cycle clean and jerk with KB’s, steelbell throws, new secret weapon, and vulcan rep work (375 reps in 12 minutes)
