Get Stronger Hands, Try the Hex pinch

by adam on August 25, 2011

I’m working on the new Industrial Strength Grip DVD volume, and I decided to share some of the brand new stuff which will be included.

Check this video out

So the story with this one.

At the Metroflex grip contest in Ft Worth Paul threw in this lift to the medley. I don’t think he even tried it before adding it in. When we has going through all the items I didn’t even think twice about it. I can easily lift a half 100 hex block in either hand, it will no problem right?

This one was so tough only a few men did it. I successfully loaded it, but it caught me off guard. My lift on it is around minute 2, I think I surprised a lot of the guys there to lift it, as so many missed it before I took my attempt in the medley. Short story- this one is far harder than it looks.

There are a few very good reasons for you to do this, and they all come back to having stronger hands, and maintaining your hand health.

#1 It is contra specific to the pinch
#2 It is contra specific to the plate curl
#3 It is a good drill to train wrist deviation with
#4 Hex dumbbells are very common
#5 The width of the bells changes as they get heavier, allowing you a huge range of pinch surfaces

In the new DVD I will cover 8 drills with hex dumbbells, many which have never been posted anywhere before.

I think you will dig it.

I tried it today because the gym owner saw your video and got the 70LB db up…couldn lift the 80Lb one up…got it off the floor only

the curl thing I did the 35lb for 20 reps and the 45 lb for 3 sets of 2….couldnt quite get the 50LB

Hi Santiago

My best I have done is 100 in a medley at a contest. In the video I just grabbed two bells to show you guys the move, i believe it was a 45 and a 25. In training I work with a 90 and 95. Right now for me the best testing curl is fat grip curls and lever bar supination/pronation, when I do this type of curl I use a 70.

I tried this one out between a couple bodyweight drills the other night, and it worked out great! It seems to be one of the few curl movements I can do that does not aggravate my elbow.

I’ve been able to incorporate a whole lot of what’s in ISG vol. 1. Not surprisingly, my grip strength is better than ever. I’m really looking forward to see what you’ll be teaching in vol. 2.

Thanks, Adam!

Nigel,

the new one will be very good. My mission is to absolutely out class my old products every time I do a new one. To this end I believe ISG II will blow away the first one in literally ever facet.

Adam, how much difference does it make if you have the rubber coated hex dumbbells? Just curious, because if it is too great, I will by some metal ones and do this at home and not at the gym.

Can’t comment, I have not used a rubber one for this. Test them both and see what you find out.
