While I was at Nationals I was admiring Chris Rice’s massive collection of awesome grip equipment. One of the pieces that caught my eye was his Slim style double hammer set. Before I left He agreed to fabricate me similar set up.
These are so hot they will burn your nose hairs off just from peeking at them. One of the most awesome additions to the gym's grip collection ever
Why do I care?
Slim Farman is without a doubt one of the most well known and strongest of all performing strongmen. His demonstrations of strength have been on going now since the 1960′s and have been witnessed by well over 500,o00 people in total. Even now in his late 70′s he still bends huge steel bars and levers hammers which no one else can touch.
Slims most famous feat of strength was levering two hammers such as this set up here in Madison Square Garden in the 1970′s where he front levered well over 50 lbs to the nose in back. He unofficially claimed a maximum of nearly 80 lbs on the lift to me on a phone call in 2008. To say Slim was strong is like saying “Charlie Sheen has a drug problem” Uh yeah, a major one….Slim is one of the strongest men ever for the feats of strength he performs.
Being a grip guy I could go on and on about Slim, but rather than do that I will say look him up.
A reason to train the nose lever
Chris Rice has been hosting a grip contest in December which is known as “Gripmas” for several years now. One of the cool things about Chris’s contest is he will throw in more unconventional contest lifts, or throw back ones. This year will feature the double hammer lever to the nose as an event.
Luckily for me, I asked for the hammers before he announced that. I imagine everyone has been bugging him for a pair now that it’s on the card.
What can I do with these things?
I am not sure yet. I am not in the mood to max out a brand new movement one day before a contest. I will throw this in to the Medley on Saturday. These hammers are 12 lbs + weight of the bolts and welds on 32.5 ” shafts. Not extremely hard, but hard enough to challenge most people. I have been pretty good at levering hammers so I imagine I will get up to a pretty decent lever by December.
Interested in getting started with leverage work? I cover leveraging in my hand strength DVD “Industrial Strength Grip” which will deliver you the top movements for beginners in the world of grip and wrist training. Ignore your hands at your own peril!

Kool!
Don’t forget it’s from a dead start – really cuts down on what you can do when the stretch reflex is gone.
Ill be on this. Also I need to return you last email. Short answer- for weight I think we should just weigh the hammers contest day and not stress about the weight minus shaft or whatever. Keep it simple as possible
