The catastrophic flooding of Minot North Dakota

by adam on June 25, 2011

This photo is of a shopping center roughly 1,000 ft from my front door.

I spent a total of 4 years of my life living in Minot ND during my service with the USAF.

This week a flood of record proportions has devastated the city and displaced thousands of people. The water is currently rising right now.

If you would like to help please contact the American Red Cross.

There is nothing I can write or say which does justice to this problem, the pain of the people who are affected, or the epic damage.

We’re currently soaking the crying towels. When the water is gone we will get to work. We still have eachother……

Fear is the mind killer–My heart bursts with love.
I am truly grateful to God for all my wonderful friends and family–The water arrives and with it Minot bursts with love. Hope seeps from the pores of Minot Citizens. The popular view of the world as a dark and hopeless cesspool proved wrong in Minot, North Dakota. Over the past few days-Minot Citizens banded together to fight this disaster. Filling Sandbags, donating food, moving furniture, offering places for the homeless to lay their weary heads, and the list goes on. Love defeated hate, Friendship tramples loneliness, and Petty differences were set aside. Unity developed as residents scattered through the water logged streets to lend a helping hand to strangers. I have no doubt that fear of the unknown ravages the psyche of Minot residents. I myself had fear; however the key word is “had”. I leave it in the hands of God.
With all the hugs, kisses, and love in a time of outer crisis the solution crests–Treat others as you would be treated. Yes, I lost my home, yes the rebuild will take months, maybe years, but I gained a new respect for humanity.
Lesson Learned–There is still hope for humanity….instead of uncertain chaos; people came together for a cause to mitigate the pain and that my friends is what sets us apart from the average bear.

So is mine but it was a rental. I feel terrible for the landlord. I overheard a girl despondently tell me her neighbor walked up to her to give her one of her photos in a photoframe that had floated out of her house and down the street. My brother and I were sooooooooooo lucky in comparison to thousands of other people. We lost very little….

I will be taking more pics but my camera is jamming often. Will go back out this afternoon.
