The Movement Minneapolis Decathlon 2011 Results

by adam on May 16, 2011

I wanted to create an experience to spark interest in future grip athletes and to push current grip athletes. I believe the Grip Decathlon was a good first rep towards this goal.

The events for this years competition were two hands pinch deadlift, grippers from a parallel set, overhand axle deadlift, 2″ vertical bar lift, one hand plateau buster lift, coin pinch, rim lift, middle finger lift, 60 second repetition pinch and a medley.

We had three classes- advanced for experienced grip competitors, open for newer athletes to the sport, and a womens class.

17 People came out to the event.

The event was an epic fun time.

For me personally this competition was a mile stone for several PRs.

At Metro Flex Mayhem in Ft Worth (Jan 2011) I pinched 211, closed 165 (MM2 replica), lifted 383 axle. Total from that is 759 lbs.

Grip Decathlon (May 2011) pinch 222, closed 179 (Elite owned by Cannon), lifted 407.5 axle, total this time was 808 lbs.

Fellow grip athletes- have you improved your total by 50 lbs in the last 5 months? If not, maybe it’s time you hire me.

Waiting to get better sucks, it’s much better to PR every single day with Gym Movement

In the NAGSA an 800 lbs total is elite. Only a handful of men have done this in competition and I am proud to enter their ranks.

My plateau buster lift of 563 was an absolute PR for me. I was very happy with my medley performance as I was able to stay calm and relaxed through all events.

I have three hours of footage of lifts. I am going to load them on Youtube over the next week.

I will put up footage over the week.

On to the Virtual Contest

For those on my news letter you know I sent out a challenge this week. Post your videos on this article (those who put them up yesterday do not need to do so again) and I will begin putting them up. I will announce the Winners on Wednesday.

Those are some awesome numbers, Adam, congrats. Grip training is oddly satisfying/fun, thanks for the original inspiration.

This was an exceptional first rep. I really, really had fun. I did the first leg of WSH and it was ‘meh’ but the variety of events made this pretty exciting. Jesse B beat me on the classic grip events, but I pulled out the win over him with some of the other items. And Will was just strong.

Great event.

Some awesome numbers there. The day sounds like a shitload of fun; very lucky people, the people of Minneapolis!

Here’s my entry in the online contest. I don’t expect to blow anyone away, but I had a load of fun and it gave me lots of ideas for mods to try and lift styles to play with. Most of the things I did in this video are literally my first attempt at that lift ever.
Thanks for inspiring me to do it, Adam.

Awesome work Adam! Excellent progress on your goal–soooo key. That medley was no joke at all! Excellent work by all as for many it was their first time or grip is something that is not their main training focus. Good times for sure!

Rock on

The Awesome was high.

The fun was memorable.

There were hot girls in the gym. HOT GIRLS at a grip competition, competing.

There were little kids buzzing around having fun. People were in town from Iowa, Philly, and whatever planet Adam is from. . . .

So the next comp, i have great baselines for. Despite the fact that grippers and V-Bar are like trigonometry and Latin to me right now. . . .

Peace!
