Worlds Strongest Hands Series 2010, the largest organized grip sport event ever.
4 legs, 10 contest locations, over 100 competitors.
I finished 11th place.
So last year I kept myself out of the top 10 with a pretty shitty two hand pinch lift. My grippers were solid, reverse bending was top notch, pinch strength was the fail.
I changed angles on my goal for the 2011 series.
I’m not coming in this year with a weakness.
My pinch will be transformed from a weakness to a strength.
The good news is I am Charlie Sheening this shit.
What I have been doing
Me and the two hand pinch are like peas and carrots now. Doesn’t matter how we feel about each other, if it’s a grip day in Movement Minneapolis I’m pinching. What days are good for grip training?
Only the days that end in “Y”
That is how progress is made, do you see?
Every day is a pinch day.
Results?
Two hand pinch lift on the adjustable European pinch apparatus
- 8 Jan 2011, last grip day before Metro Flex Mayhem in Ft Worth TX. Best pinch was 202 lbs.
- 15 Jan 2011, Metro Flex best pinch 211 lbs (exceeded body weight so that was another nice PR)
- 29 Jan 2011, 212 euro pinch
- 30 Jan 2011, 216 euro pinch
- 22 Feb 2011, 220 euro pinch
- 1 Mar 2011, 225 euro pinch
- 11 Mar 2011 230 euro pinch
Do you see? 30 lbs in under 75 days!
I have no doubt I will be able to lift over 250 lbs during the series.
Pinch Pull Up
- tested in the first week of january and found out I could hang for a few seconds.
- 21 Jan 2011 almost up the bar, hang time increased
- 31 Jan 2011, full rep
- 16 Feb 2011, double rep
- 22 Feb 2011, triple rep
- 1 Mar 2011, double rep with legs in L seat
Result? Pinch pull ups at a body weight of 215, done in the hardest style with no leverage as in the rafter pull up. Do you see?
World of Grip – Griptopz handles
I love these damn things. Four different tops attach to a loading pin to simulate some classic feats of strength. David is bringing these feats to competitive grip sport in a very easy to judge and use implement.
The half penny pinch.
- 9 Feb 2011, first training day was in 35.6 lbs
- 16 Feb 38.2 lbs
- 11 Mar 39.6 lbs, lifted 40.8 three inches off the ground
Do you see? Even if this slow rolls I will pick up at least 6 lbs between now and the first leg in August.
On the gripper front everything is going good. I have days where heavy resistance is testing very good, and three or four volume days afterwards.
Level 18 Gold Spring from parallel set position
Mash Monster 4 replica, feels harder than my 3.5 COC
Other thing I have been working: Plate curls, Dinnie stone training, bench pressing, a lot of body weight stuff, and pushing/pulling sleds. Lots of pressing and rowing, lots of squatting patterns and lunges too. All in all I am working 40 different patterns weekly.
What are you up to? What progress do you have to report?
Let me know what you are working on. What is going well, what is not? Post your progress in the comments section.
Do you need a hand?
I have open slots for my distance coaching program. This can be your kick start to powerful progress…

Dramatic? Those are Epic improvements. Nice work Adam. Keep leading the pack brother.
If only that euro had been a little lighter this fall.
Adam, great progress on the euro. Its no longer a weakness for you.
I will say that training grip with adam at his gym made a huge difference in performance. He showed me some little changes to my set up on the euro that added pounds to the bar. I had three intensity pr’s while at his gym that week. ( v-bar, plate curl and euro). Thanks for the help.
Nice improvements Adam!
I have been using the movement protocol and I am making good progress.
But I have to write to you because you state in your article “How to Close the #3 Captain of Crush Gripper Faster ” that nobody has closed the no4 from ccs. You haven’t seen Joe Kinneys video on the no4 close I guess!! Where he barely stabilizes the no4 well beyond ccs and smasses it and grinds the handles together!! I have seen Magnus Samuelssons video where he cheats the no4 almost closed and then closes it and holds for few seconds. But It’s a joke compared to Joe Kinney close. Nobody has ever closed the no4 like Joe Kinney!!!
You might not agree with Joe Kinneys training methods but you cant take the no4 close away from him!
Jammy I’m glad youre making progress buddy!
Amazing progress Adam! Very impressive!
Progress is going well here, in more directions now. Jodie and I went to Sky Zone trampolines (right across from the Movement almost) and had a blast there jumping around; got a 360 rotation several times to the right there. I realized kiteboarding in Mexico (which went great, rode for several hours at a crack without any issues in epic conditions and flat water) that I need more off axis/rotation work. Parital hand stands have been testing awesome along with 45 degree lunge deadlifts and overhead neutral pressing. Chins just starting testing well again for the first time in months. I’ve only been doing lighter grip work, but hit 6 reps with a 25 lb plate on my right hand yesterday. Oddly enough (hehehe), my tendinosis in my right elbow has been gone for 3 weeks now too.
Squats and DLs for intensity are still hit and miss and doing more volume work lately; so they will come around.
Overall going well despite crazy stress levels
Rock on
