Fat Gripz: best hand strength investment for will get for 40 bucks

Makes me wish I would have thought of them first!

Ever see something that makes you want to slap yourself for not thinking of it first?

That is how I feel when I look at the Fat Gripz.

I spend way too much time thinking about hand strength and grip training. I know a good grip tool when I see it.

I got my first chance to use a pair of Fat Gripz in January when I was in Dallas training with Frankie. Most of the time he lifts at a commercial gym so specialized grip equipment is no where to be found. He ordered a set of these in December and since then has already made serious improvements in his grip for ju-jitsu.

Want a stronger grip faster? Make the handle thicker.

One of the easiest ways to get more grip strength is to use thicker handled equipment. The problem with these for most people is cost and transportation. A lot of you who are training at a commercial gym are at the mercy of the owner on what tools you have to train with. Axles, which being a great piece of equipment to own, are costly and challenging to transport. Fat handled dumbbell sets are great, but most run over $200 dollars.

So the Fat Gripz fixes a simple problem in a very cost effective solution. They are low cost, high durability, and easy to transport. I would guess the pair of them are under 1 lbs, and they will fit in any gym bag.

The grips have a slot running down the side of them which allows you to slip them on to bars, dumbbells, various cable attachments, and the handles of most popular equipment such as Hammer Strength.

Fat Gripz are made from a thick rubber foam. There is a slight amount of give to them which allows some degree of finger penetration, just like Sorinex’s custom fat handle dumbbells.  This will allow greater finger flexor recruitment and more engagement of the thumb.

My top 5 movements for you to use your Fat Gripz are the barbell deadlift with double overhand grip, the bent over barbell row, Pull downs/Pull ups, Shrugs, and dumbbell clean and presses. Even a small amount of Fat Gripz training will be high pay off for both more muscular arms and greater support grip strength.

How will Fat Gripz give me more muscle? I do those drills all the time

True, but an open hand position changes the game with them. Our forearms have many smaller muscles which are passed over when the hand is in a tight fist. When the hand is open however, the finger flexors are engaged. You can always spot someone who does a lot of thick bar work by their muscular forearms and wrist tendon size.

At first you may have a decrease in both resistance and volume with some of your drills which using Fat Gripz, but soon you will adapt and make even greater gains. I have personally witnessed several people add upwards to 20 lbs to their bench press with the simple addition of extra support work using an axle.

Get them

There is no other piece of equipment on the market which offers this level of low cost/high pay off for grip training. This is a product I absolutely endorse because I know it will help you out. They are worth your time.

I ordered mine almost 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately, they are selling so fast that they are on back order.

Surprised it has taken this long, did they give you a projected delivery date?

Adam,
Do you find it more/less difficult to DOH deadlift using an axle vs. using fat gripz on a standard BB. Ive never had the chance to work with an axle and want to know if a 300lb. DOH dealift using fat gripz would translate to 300lbs. on the axle.

Besides the lifts Adam mentioned I also use them for BB curls/rev curls/hammer curls. I pretty much quite doing traditional curls until I got my fat gripz, they are game changers for any type of curl.

Axle will be harder due to surface texture. The rubber fat gripz gives you a big advantage over a metal smooth bar. Still worth your time to train, only key will be practice in the event you are doing some kind of competition like for grip sport or strongman

Adam. Got my FatGripz today from Sorinex-too long a wait from parent company-got a refund after waiting 6 weeks, and a free pair will be sent for the inconvenience. Yhanks for letting me know about these things-great addition to my new love of grip training.
