Level 17 for 4 reps right handed, big ass PR from today.
So I shaved my beard and got a hair cut today.
Every three weeks or so I wake up and have a pretty strong urge to shave it off. I am usually able to talk myself down by the time I brush my teeth.
Today was not one of those days.
This is the first time I have been beardless now since July. It’s weird. I don’t recognize myself at all.
BAD ASS NEW DVD ALERT!
Logan Christopher is someone who you need to keep your eyes on.
Why?
Well for one he can snatch a 24kg kettlebell 301 times in 10 minutes.
The number of people who have ever done this can be counted on one hand.
Logan has been working on this goal for a long time. I remember talking to him about it nearly two years ago, and I knew he would get it. I did not expect him to accomplish this goal so quickly.
Not only has Logan crushed this world class feat, he has made a massive 3 disc DVD set detailing all things related to the kettlebell snatch. In it he demonstrates and breaks down several styles of snatching, assistance work, and programming. This is the only product in the world that delivers the goods for kettlebell snatch mastery. Unlike other kettlebell DVDs, this one is made by someone who can do exactly what his product claims to deliver. What a concept!
This is Logan’s second kettlebell DVD, his first was the massive Kettlebell Juggling double DVD set which you can check out here.
I have been watching his new DVD this week and I am very happy with how well put together it is. Logan has improved his professional polish and instructor skills with each product and it is truly refreshing to see someone who is so focused on getting better.
Logan has prepared several free videos on his new website www.kettlebellsnatch.net, I want you to check them out. Make sure you leave him some comments and share you opinion, he is a great dude to know and he will help you reach your snatch number goals. Worth your attention!
New Movements and stuff that is testing well for me
In the last few weeks I have added a few movements to my rotation and modified a few in some interesting ways.
First is the hanging V Up. Much like a hanging straight leg raise except you take the legs all the way up top to the bar. I really like these. My back feels great after I do them and they are currently one of my better testing movements.
Along with this I am doing more hip overs on the bar. I don’t know what anyone else calls these- you do a V up, then pull your ass over the top of the bar and flip back around. They are amusing.
I have started playing around with my L-seat to handstand press again. I set two kettlebells on the floor and get in to a dip position. From there I move to an L seat, then invert myself and try to do a press to a handstand.
I have not successfully completed the handstand press yet, but the transitional movements are getting easier each time I practice. I believe I will be able to do this by the end of March.
Barbell walking lunges. Ever do these? Worth a try. This is another movement which is rapidly progressing right now. So far each workout a heavier resistance has tested well and the rep count continues to climb.
Walking see saw dumbbell press. I think I can do this one everyday. This one used to be at the RKC before moving your feet became illegal. You should try it.
Fat Loss Class at Movement Minneapolis.
Wednesday 2 March at 630 we are doing an advanced fat loss class. If you are in the Minneapolis area you should bring you ass out for this one. Plus I got Will Williams coming in to town. It will be a blast.
Our Cancun challenge is moving fast now. We have several people who have cut their body fat in half. I am very excited to see who is heading to Mexico. It will be close.
The big grip contest In May, are you training for it?
I have had a number of people confirm attendance for the decathlon. It will be a great time. Are you coming out? Would you like to?
Road Less Traveled, #1 on the web for “How to be awesome at everything in life”
Note How Accurate Google is! It correctly identified the most awesome site. Google today, Sky Net tomorrow.
Google is smart. I dig it.
My #1 read article?
How to fight a great white shark with a chain saw. Every month it gets thousands of views. I think that is awesome. I can imagine little kids getting stuck with book reports on sharks and using that post as a reference. You what that sounds like? Awesome. Yes the sound of awesome.
“Mr Smith, I need to talk to you about your son’s book report. Did you know he wrote a paper and claimed sharks can fly?”
“No, that is absurd. Where did he hear that?”
“Google”
That is pretty fucking awesome.
Where can I get a Pope Hat?
I’m thinking it would be a good addition to my keen fashion of karata exercise pants, sambas, and a hoodie.
What do you think?

Mike,
see the leg raise thing and the hip over thing I am doing there- I think that would be a good thing for you to test out. I am going to outline a few mild variations to try out with your hip situation in mind that might be useful for you.
I do not know the reflection in the mirror LOL. Looks so different than what I think I look like in my mind.
Adam, if you were my son I would be weeping with joy!
Beth I figured you would be sad about the beard going, but please don’t cry
Any tips on setting the vulcan? Got one a few weeks ago. I love it. Starting to put in some serious volume. Should be level 11 on both hands in a few weeks. But god damn is it a pain to set.
Colin- yes start here
How to set a gripper
Crush grip training
You look awesome nowadays, Adam.
According to the book Building the Gymnastic Body by Christopher Sommer, the v-up ass over bar move is called a pullover. It’s made in a slightly different way though, first do a pullup and from the top raise your legs and get over the bar. I like the move too and have used the pullover to train for the muscle-up. A pullover up and a as slow as possible muscle-up negative down.
The same book calls your Hanging V-up a Hanging Leg Lift and the horizontal kind a Half Hanging Leg Lift. A very good book by the way.
Your body weight must have dropped by about 1.5lbs after chopping the beard.
As a note of hilarity, two Master RKCs endorsed Logan’s accomplishment, only to watch the video, disagree with his form, and renounce their endorsement. I thought it was common sense to evaluate, then endorse.
Shows you how tight that ship is run these days ….
Glad to see you in high spirits.
Fake it til ya make it right?
I love the fact you’re doing sh*t that looks so fun (hanging bar work)- looks like the kinds of things I used to do in gradeschool – my 9 yr old self was a kick ass play ground monkey…can’t say the same for my 36 yr old self- something I just realized I want to work on (I’d be damn happy to have the equivalent/proportionate strength and agility I had then).
For shaving the beard- how’s this fit into the man skills, or can we expect a new addition soon?
Chris, I have been doing a lot of new movements. Body weight hand balancing, hanging stuff, and when the weather changes some running and sled work is planned.
I have many new articles planned. Just need to be in the state to write them. Lately I have been doing more work towards some future projects. Never enough time in a day is there?
