Officially certified captain of crush #3 today

by adam on December 20, 2010

Knocked out my last goal for 2010 today, getting my COC. Read the Ironmind press release HERE

The process is pretty straight forward. Ironmind selects a judge and mails them a brand new C0C #3. You meet with the judge and open the package, display a credit card set and close it end to end so the judge can observe a full close.

The #3 has been a standard in the strength world for almost 20 years now. In 20o5 the rules changed from a 1 ” rule to the credit card rule. Since then the number of people who have completed it has dropped sharply. Click HERE to see the #3 List.

In my opinion reaching a parallel set close with a #3 is in reach of anyone who puts in smart training and the reps. The credit card set is another story. It is much harder. I was getting my first closes with a #3 a year ago, only in the last 60 days have I been consistent with my CCS.

I am on a hot streak with my grippers right now. I believe the 3.5 cert is reasonable in 2011, along with a Vulcan 21 with 20 mm block set.

For all who have interest in grip, I say you can do it. If you want it you can get out there an make it happen.

Here are three articles to speed up your gripper progress

How to close the captain of crush gripper faster

Build stronger hands fast- how to set a captain of crush gripper

How to Close a Captain of Crush Gripper Faster; High Rep Work

My DVD Industrial Strength Grip has a full crush grip training block designed to give beginners the best possible starting point. I also included a detailed block of instruction specifically for torsion spring grippers in Grip and Rip 2.1

I will warn you, grippers can get very addictive! I honestly didn’t even like grippers until 2009 when I took time to learn to set correctly and started making progress. This year I put in thousands and thousands of reps in with my Vulcan gripper and the pay off has been huge in both my crush and my support strength.

The choice is yours. I know you can do it, all you have to decide is if you agree. If you think you can, or think you can’t; you’re right either way.

Congratulations, Adam.

Congrats. Perhaps my goal to close the #3 by my 30th birthday (15 months out) is too aggressive if you’re only getting certified now after a lot of grip work. I can close the #2 now and have just recently started to put focus back on grip work.

Collin

My progress is not a marker of how long it could take you, possible you have more potential then I. Tendon strength is the key, smart loading, and proper volume. Implement the testing protocol and you will get there, it is certain.

What makes the set harder than just holding it normally, then crushing it? Never messed with grippers, so I have no idea.

Peter, you can’t just hold a heavy gripper and crush it :)

Huge congrats Adam! They changed to the Credit Card Set shortly before I certified in 2005.

Way to go Adam! I just received the new DVD today and watched it all the way through. All I can say is WOW! You definitely under promised and over delivered on this project just like its predecessor Grip and Rip 2.1. I can’t wait to get to the gym and start putting this cutting edge information to work!
