My Training Lately- Moving Farther, Faster

by adam on June 30, 2010

It happened upon me I have not up dated my video training logs in over 6 weeks, so I loaded a lot of new shit today.

Rather than talk a lot about what I am doing lately, I will just show you.

Two Hands Pinch, 245lbs at 219 body Weight. All time best pull…

After this I broke 250 off the floor several times. I predict I will be close to 275 by the end of the year with my pinch. Worlds Strongest Hands starts in August and I will be ready.

Repetition Vertical Bar lifting
280 for 5 reps

240 for 16 reps

Concept is simple, pull more damn reps. This is helping with my skin conditioning and I am suffering fewer palm tears at higher weights (still happens)

I am looking for 300 for 5 this month of July, and a max of 350 (In competition that would be the absolute World Record) by end of summer.

KB Speed work on Snatches, push presses, Jerks, and Long Cycle
The Target is 1 rep every second or faster. Here is 45 in 44 seconds w/16kg bells.

I lift most of my overhead right with KB’s at speed, and barbells for weight. As Mike T Nelson has pointed out many times on his page, tissue turn over happens faster with big movements and high speed. I can vouch for this, no matter what any one thinks of my LC and JK work– it is making me bigger and stronger faster.

My BW is down to 219 right now. tissue density is up. I have been bench pressing with both a reverse grip and close grip lately. A lot more trap bar deadlifting too. Preparing DDN for the upcoming State record he will set gets me back to pulling weight more often.

Three things I would like to do this year
- World Strongest Hands – top 10 finish
- First GS meet – just do it, don’t care about numbers
- Push pull meet this fall – looking for 365 BP (reverse grip) and 600 pull

Getting better everyday makes training fun. Its amusing to come in and it a set of 3 Monday, and hit 4 Tuesday, than 8 on Friday with a given weight.

My KB snatch numbers are very consistently improving. Solid pattern volume, density, density, volume…testing takes care of everything, no need to even plan a cycle.

Still not as freaky as Logan Christopher’s 273 in 10 minutes with a 24kg!

Naturally I still find time to tear up and break shit, Here is a deck of bikes ripped and quartered

My new studio will be open this coming month in Western Minneapolis. I will be hosting monthly Tactical Strength Challenges (TSC), Grip Competitions, and KB fitness events. I want to give people more chances to test their abilities and come out to play.

In the end, Its about Better. I will take better every chance in every way I can. I leave all other bullshit to those who you who wish to play with it.

Velvet,

I gotta say -
the frosted tips really seem to be helping you PR.

adam June 30, 2010 at 7:25 pm

EOWJR July 3, 2010 at 3:10 pm

How do you move that fast with all that facial growth?

adam July 3, 2010 at 3:29 pm

Ahh, you like that don’t you Devil Dog? Wind resistance is a mild limitation compared to the added epic awesomeness of the caveman beard

You wouldn’t believe my diet either…ask Mike Nelson if he can confirm or deny a diet of Dark Irish Stout, Chipotles, and Steak will make someone drop BF fast

Christian July 2, 2010 at 1:10 pm

Chipotle clears my entire digestive track within 12 hours so I could understand why it helps you lose weight

adam July 2, 2010 at 6:03 pm

You need to eat less spice maybe? I love spicy food. Never fucks with me

Isabel June 30, 2010 at 9:44 pm

Nice Adam. Thats really all I gotta say.

adam July 1, 2010 at 12:48 pm

Keep putting one foot in front of the other one and you can get anywhere you want to go

Steve Meidinger June 30, 2010 at 10:16 pm

Bout damn time you are able to give up that clean shaven shit.

adam July 1, 2010 at 12:49 pm

Yes, and now…no matter how awful it looks, the beard must grow. There will be time when the terror of the beard is epic, and still it must grow.

Boris let’s do it. I’ve never been to Michigan.

adam July 1, 2010 at 12:56 pm

No can do for this one, Worlds Strongest Hands plus opening the gym. I need one in either TC, Chi-town, or WI. My family lives in MI, so when I go there it needs to be a trip for several days. Just not time yet.

Boris Bachmann July 1, 2010 at 3:04 pm

Adam,
Too bad, but maybe I’ll see you at the next one.

Josh,
I’m 90% sure I’ll be there. My wife and I will sit down this weekend to discuss the next 6 months of work/play scheduling and I’ll make a final decision then. Hope you can make it if I go.

Mike T Nelson July 1, 2010 at 11:19 am

Great work Adam. It must be the beard! Pretty soon when you lay down in yard, the neighbors will think you are the world’s largest Gnome. haha!

Excellent work on the jerks! SPEEDY!

Yes, I think we can control tissue turnover and that may be one of the limiting factors. The body will respond (adapt) to the stimulus, so the question because what stimulus we want to use.

Time for more KB LC and KB Snatches as I get my body fast tested in a few hours. Topped out at 221-222 lbs in the AM for the past 3 days, so time to cut down a bit.

Simple snatch tips helped a ton and they tested great yesterday–thanks Adam!

The IKFF looks interesting–esp the relay portion.

Mike, I am able to do more consecutive days of lifting than I have ever have before. At first I wondered if lots of reps at speed would wear me down…but I snatch, Jerk, and do LC everyday of training- 5 days a week. It is no joke. I am so rarely sore, and feel like I heal faster from bumps and bruises. Maybe, maybe not? Either way the first piece of info you gave me about this seems to be holding up under pressure.

david July 1, 2010 at 12:59 pm

I’ve been wondering the same thing re: bumps and bruises.

I smashed my foot in a way that would take most people down for a week on Sunday. You saw me, I couldn’t walk on Sunday. Still trained on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and just ran 5k on it today.

josh July 1, 2010 at 1:46 pm

How did you smash your foot?

david July 1, 2010 at 1:57 pm

ATG slingshotted me on Mable about 40-45 mph and as I went inverted off the tube still holding on I think I smashed the hard part of one foot into the soft part of the other. It was awesome.

Mike T Nelson July 1, 2010 at 2:24 pm

Ah, good stuff guys. Much appreciate these data!

Make sense that the faster you can turn over tissue, the faster you should heal—replace old “bad” tissue with new “better” tissue.

If there is no pain, lifting should actually ACCELERATE this process by shaping the new tissue to the demands placed on it.

Looking pretty awesome

Logan Christopher July 1, 2010 at 12:35 pm

Nice work.

I’m finding the same things in regards to speed. I have a hypothesis on why my snatch numbers and deadlift are going up faster than everything else. For that reason I started adding in KB jerks and seen my pressing go up too.

adam July 1, 2010 at 12:54 pm

I am convinced more and more– Kbs are best for speed work. So many people are hurting their shoulders for example trying to press bigger bells with tension, why not just do more Jerks and Push presses with a lighter bell and focus on speed and density?

Seems to be working for you…Mr 277 reps in 10 minutes…soon to be over 300 reps in 10.

Logan Christopher July 1, 2010 at 2:43 pm

From my training log this week:

Monday
Trap Bar Deadlifts 405 x 5,7,6 in 8 minutes

Tuesday
KB Snatch 24kg x 277 in 10 minutes

Wednesday – Off

Thursday
BB Deadlift worked up to 470lb x 1

Coincidence? I think not.

josh July 1, 2010 at 2:49 pm

Logan, until you fix your “curvature” problem that we talked about, you will never truly respect yourself. I have a book to send you.

Brad Johnson July 1, 2010 at 7:27 pm

Badass progress.

Nice beard and short shorts, brah. What happened to karate pants and vibrams?

Also: Logan, weird, my DL and KB snatch numbers seem synergistic too. Very interesting….

adam July 1, 2010 at 2:40 pm

I want to add slingshots on the mable are epic fun. DDN has not embraced the full retard example I have put out of spectacular flips and throws off the mable. Skidding across the water for 50 ft is fun…
