Indeed.

I didn’t know they enjoyed helping make a species near extinction.

Yeah the sea turtles were already having issues

This is the price we all pay for being greedy!

Wars in Iraq, oil spills out at sea… one day we will decide to quit with oil and put our money into more renewable sources!

If they offered one billion dollars to the institute that created a 50%+ efficient solar panel (instead of the approx 20% we have today), I wonder how long before it happened? The only reason we lack all these things is because nobody will offer Universities the money to research it properly because oil makes SOOOOOOOOO much money for the governments with taxes. The tax on petrol is roughly 220% in the UK… mental!

People who never get out of the city are ones who really don’t genuinely understand this sentiment. As a person who is fortunate enough to spend vast amounts of time in remote and pristine alpine environments, I am able to see and recognize the beauty that is left in this world. It must be preserved at all costs.

Humans have the unique ability to be the suitors of this planet. Enough of the destruction…we have proved we can do that very well. If we are in fact the self-anointed “top of the food chain” species we think we are, we need to act like it. Our strength needs to be our ability to exercise restraint.

Time for a dose of philosophy:

We don’t “own” a body, we are a body. We don’t “own” the Earth, we are of the Earth. All we have to give up is our “dominion.” We are all big on listening to our bodies in this crowd, and it seems to be working for us. We have all acknowledged that our body has a wisdom of its own and have stopped fighting it. I see a day when we start listening to Mother Earth as well, a day when we take the same approach as this crowd does with their individual bodies.

Or maybe I’m just a lone philosopher screaming in the wilderness…

Kevin Greto June 21, 2010 at 9:13 pm

I may not be screaming (doesn’t test well), but I’m right there with you. The knowledge of the land and our bodies we lost in exchange for a faster paced life has put us down a destructive path; may there be a day when quality is chosen over quantity (money).

Well it´s easy to blame BP but I think we all are indirectly responsible for the accident by using all petroleum products. Ok it´s BP who does the drilling and are responsible for the safety precautions. Just my thought.

Sheri June 29, 2010 at 3:02 pm

Ah. Hello. BP makes it so that we have to use those product. Free energy is not free and not allowed to be made accessible. I love the Earth and mankind. BP has one thing only only the planning table and that is greed. They are not intending to clean up or vacuum the so called crude. They have the means to contain the spew and they are not doing it. I do not want to even hear poor BP. I saw the smirks on their faces. They know they will not ever be held accountable for this intended catastrophe.

They will still earn a proft as they destroy the entire gulf coast…Like I said those guys are dicks

Matt June 21, 2010 at 8:32 am

The whole thing is a tragedy indeed but it looks like that whilst BP “own” the rights to the oil it may not have actually been down to them, rather the drilling company may actually be culpable.

BP are however taking responsibility and attempting to get a handle on this mess.

From what I gather Obama is trying to put the entire blame on BP (constantly referring to BP as British Petroleum in the media, regardless of the fact that it’s a global corporation now and not completely a British affair any more). I also gather that one of Obama’s first acts as President was to return a bust of Winston Churchill that has been in the oval office since it was gifted to the then President many years ago.

It would seem from an British man’s point of view that Obama would like nothing more than to sever the so called “special relationship” that our two countries have.

cant speak for BO but Brits are always welcome here on Road Less Travelled

Mathieu D June 22, 2010 at 2:50 pm

I only have one thing to add:

Time spent trying to find the culprit is time lost at finding and applying solutions.

We are all culprits, we should all take responsibility.

Restraining my meat intake? Fuck that. But I sold my car (and when I had it I used it fairly rarely, and co-rode often), and I use as little of any new plastic stuff as I can. I don’t consider this a restraint of any kind to my quality of life. It’s just a choice.

What do you do?

Mat
