Josh, how much less is your axle deadlift compared to your regular DL? You’ve got a strong grip, so I imagine that for you the difference is less than for most lifters.
Jeroen, I only pull double overhand on the axle, and it’s well, well below my regular DL. I’m pulling above 500 quite easily now on a normal bar, but my max is still 325 on the double overhand axle. I haven’t been giving it much attention. I do find, however, that if I pull on the axle with a mixed grip, I barely lose any weight. Doesn’t seem to make too much of a difference for me in difficulty with a mixed grip.
I love axle work, but I cannot do anywhere near the volume on axle deadlifts that I can with my regular bar.
My max axle deadlift has stayed around 30kg less than my max with a regular bar
2″ bars are pretty thick for my tiny hands, compared with most other guys a 2″ bar is about the same to me as a 2.5″ bar is to them… damn my tiny hands!
Hey gang, selfish plug, but i had a student make her first Intensity PR yesterday. It’s on me bloggings. When do you guys start axel pulling with soapy hands and/or oven mitts?

Josh, have ever used a 3” bar? If you have, does it feel like you can cover a lot of it’s girth with your hands? You’re a very tall man.
Nope, haven’t used one.

Always and forever.
I have one of the axles from Swager and it is great –lots of fun!
I find that I do most of my double overhand pulls on it for lower weight and reps–normally tests well when my standard DL does not test well.
Still a ways to go to on it compared to my standard DL on the 1 inch TX power bar
An option is what I call “poor mans grip work” is to use a standard bar and just use a non hook double overhand (pronated) grip.
At heavier weights, there is no whip or flex in the bar at all (not that I have seen yet)
Rock on

Hey Boris – How can I get my hands on one of those sexy t-shirts? I’ll be in DM mid-month. (:

Freaks, all of you!
Thanks for the video, looks like cool piece of equipment. Where did you get it?

Watching them take it out of the UPS truck was a true comedy of errors.
