Worlds Strongest Hands 2010 International Grip Contest

David Horne is throwing a 4 leg grip contest this year.

Events will be

  • Two Hands Pinch on the Euro device
  • 20mm set Grippers with the Vulcan adjustable gripper
  • Reverse bending with the Wrist developer device

What is a Grip Contest?

The Strongest Hands Series is a contest of three different events measuring several types of hand/wrist strength. The Vulcan gripper tests the crushing strength or closing strength of the hand. The Europinch is the benchmark for two hand pinching, which tests the power of the thumb, fingers, and palm. The DH Wrist developer is testing the reverse bend, which is both support grip and wrist/arm power.

Why should you care? It will be fun! There will be prizes awarded to the local winners of the contest and those going for the international boards are in the running for all kinds of prizes/awards and of course bragging rights.

Hand strength contests for the most part take size and weight out of the picture. It is a contest you can enter without worrying about throwing out your back or twisting your bum knee. Finally- it is your chance to meet some great people.

The dates are as follows:

Leg 1 – Saturday 14 August, 2010
Leg 2 – Saturday 11 September, 2010
Leg 3 – Saturday 16 October, 2010
Leg 4 – Saturday 13 November, 2010

There are 10 locations for the contest:

David Horne – Stafford, England
Steve Gardener – Gloucester, England
Mike Daly – Kirkaldy, Scotland
Juha Harju – Helsinki, Finland
Chris Rice – Crooksville, Ohio, USA
Dave Thornton – Three Rivers, Michigan, USA
Eric Milfeld – Fort Worth, Texas, USA
Jedd Johnson – Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, USA
Adam T. Glass – Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
Aaron Concorran + Tim Struse – Tucson, Arizona, USA

With 6 locations in the USA it will be much easier for people to participate.

I will have three other events post contest win local prizes in the local leg of the contest at the Minneapolis location.

This is your chance to come out and test your strength against the rest of the world. There will be people from raw beginner to world class and there is a place for YOU on the boards.

Right now, what I want YOU to do

– Leave a comment If you KNOW you are coming out. Put your email in the comment and I will send you a basic training plan to get ready for the contest using the equipment you already own.

I am proud to say I am hosting the Northern USA leg of the international contest and I want YOU to come out to play.

Mike, honestly you are way better off going to PA if you are going to compete. With it being a 4 leg contest and only three events- I would think it is a long haul for that.

I’m definitely in, 5 competitions done so far this year, 4 more to go… not a bad start to my first year in grip training :) I shall be competing at David Horne’s place in Stafford, England.

Mike, you’ve done other competitions so you should know that even if you come last the enjoyment of a competition is well worth participating :)

This international four leg event is going to be amazing! Most of the strongest grip athletes will be involved and many intermediate and novice competitors, plenty of room for everyone to grow and have a basis to improve upon!

I’ll come play. Totally not sure if I would do well or not. Never done any grip training. But it sounds like fun.

josh May 23, 2010 at 1:50 pm

You’re going to beat Adam and make history. I feel it!

Rachael May 24, 2010 at 1:53 pm

Sure Josh. Me and my naturally talented awesomeness can do that. Either that or I was going to challenge people for last place. Not sure which way to go… :: giggles ::

I just need to figure out what the events are and how to train for it.

Train to bite a 45 lb plate in half. That’ll be something they’ve never seen:)
