Feats of Strength Contest: Everyone Can/Must! Participate

by josh on February 20, 2010

Here is something you may not know about me, I am a huge festivus fan. See below video for the history of festivus.

Basically it’s all about feats of strength, and airing of grievances. I think those two topics pretty much sum up this page. Including the metal pole is not even required, as we all are lifting barbells daily.

So with this in mind, see my video below

The Team here are huge fans of feats of strength and demonstrations of human performance. We believe it is our birthright to get better day to day and to be exceptional every day.

I have devoted the last 4 years of my training in focus of feats of grip and hand strength, along with classic old time strongman demonstrations such as tearing thick phone books, ripping decks of cards in half and bending various steel objects. My passion and dedication is what won the respect of many of you viewing this page.

Now it is your turn, I want to see YOU shine.

The contest is simple. we are looking for exceptional displays of human movement

  • Classic feats of strength-bending, tearing, breaking
  • New or unique feats of strength
  • Big lifts and unusual lifts
  • Juggling of kettlebells, clubs, or odd objects
  • Bodyweight feats of strength such as the one arm pull up or Iron Cross
  • Tumbling, Free running, hand balancing

In short, I want to see what you can do! Do not count yourself out, some people simply do not understand how amazing they are. Do not hold back, show us what you got!

The categories will be:

  • Men’s most creative
  • Mens most impressive
  • Mens most entertaining
  • Women’s most creative
  • Women’s most impressive
  • Women’s most entertaining

Judges will be Myself, Josh, Ryan Pitts of Stronger Grip, David Dellanave of Shoemoney.com and Frankie Faires. We will select the top three videos for each category. Once we have the top three- YOU will decide which ones are the winners. Videos will be displayed here as they trickle in.

What you have to do to play:

  • Film your feat– please ensure you capture it in good quality and lighting.
  • Post your video on Youtube, viddler, or another media sharing site
  • Send me an email with “Feats of strength contest” in the head line
  • Include the URL of the video for the feat.

All Entries are due to me by 20 Mar 2010, which means you have over 25 days to get something in.

Now is your time, so let’s see it!

Adam

Adam,
Can we enter more than one feat or is there a limit on how many we can submit?

-Chris

josh February 20, 2010 at 4:34 pm

Not sure what I will do yet, but I’m in. Can’t resist a challenge like this. :) Great idea Adam!

Kris Wragg February 21, 2010 at 3:29 am

This is awesome, looking forward to seeing what people post.

I have a totally off the wall idea that I’ve been toying with the last few days, so I’m tempted to try it and see how it turns out, if it works you’ll see it, if not… you still may see it for the laugh factor :) I believe its something that has never been done, and there is probably a good reason for that, but I’m willing to see!

Rob February 21, 2010 at 4:09 am

Hi guys, I’m in on this one. I have a couple o’ things that’ve been hanging in the back of my mind which you just brought to the front!

Cheers
Rob

Matthew Green February 21, 2010 at 3:47 pm

Make it 2020 and I’ll submit a high manna.

adam February 21, 2010 at 3:51 pm

Come on Matthew lets see something. I have been told Z trainers are not particularly strong, so i am willing to accept and award 1st place for exceptional demonstrations of “T Spine mobility and control” :)

I am sure you can think of something…

Kris Wragg February 21, 2010 at 4:01 pm

HAHA I love that, although t spine mobility is/was hard… at first I didn’t even know such movement was possible! But now I have good t-spine movement and its helped a lot with overhead stuff!

I’m sure most people can do something that will impress others, even slightly.

adam February 21, 2010 at 4:16 pm

I’m just playing with Matthew, he certainly has some impressive things to show if he wants to.

Kris Wragg February 22, 2010 at 3:42 pm

Can you bend with your feet? I can…

Yes I am a crazy nutter, yes I probably am the first person to be stupid/crazy enough to try bending with their feet… so what? If you think it looks easy, give it a go, I promise you that was as hard for me as bending a 6″ nail reverse style!

josh February 22, 2010 at 3:43 pm

Awesome. It’s up on the contest page.

Kris Wragg February 22, 2010 at 3:47 pm

Thanks Josh :) I wasn’t sure how it would go, I have never tried it before… it was hard!

I tried several styles before settling on those, I tried putting the bar between my toes and all sorts, but I don’t quite have monkey toes haha Hope it puts a smile on a few peoples faces, I know its a bit crazy, but I’m sure people thought that when strongmen started bending things with their hands for the first time!

Rachael February 23, 2010 at 3:38 pm

“The contest is simple. we are looking for exceptional displays of human movement”

Ok guys, I need some ideas. I am have a hard time thinking anything I can do is “exceptional” or “amazing.”

Kris Wragg February 23, 2010 at 3:52 pm

What exercises do you enjoy doing Rachael?

Rachael February 23, 2010 at 4:55 pm

I guess the short answer is over head pressing. But I don’t think my numbers are all that impressive.

I can MP the 20kg for 3-5 reps. – tho the last ones don’t look as good as the first one 
I have MP the 16kg standing on one foot for 5-10 reps.
Double 16kg are fairly easy.(I think at one point I could do double 16kg standing on one foot, but it’s been a while) Or double 14kg while seated are fine too.
The last time I tried the 24kg, I only got about half way up.

I have not experimented on different hand positions: palming the weight, finger tips holding or BUP. Mmmm….

Kris Wragg February 23, 2010 at 5:04 pm

Rachael thats pretty strong for a lady! Don’t put yourself down :)

I’ve never seen one legged presses before, that would be cool to see! :)

adam February 23, 2010 at 10:01 pm

Which positions have been going well, which ones poorly?

Rachael February 24, 2010 at 9:25 am

Consistently test well: dead lifts, presses, push-ups, halos, jumping
Testing inconsistent or poorly: swings, snatches, squats, lunges
Bilateral loading usually test better then unilateral loads.

josh February 23, 2010 at 4:48 pm

Rachael, that’s too grandiose, ignore it. I’m going to be cutting a deck of cards in half with a chainsaw. Let’s win on style points:)

Rachael February 23, 2010 at 5:11 pm

But I only get to use the power tools with adult supervision, and it’s really hard to find someone that acts like an adult! :: giggles ::

Style points huh. Well I do have style. Might need some props.

Rob February 23, 2010 at 11:55 pm

Adam/Josh, here’s my first offering :

New PB last night, BUP’s tested well!
