i have had a lot of talk in the last three weeks with a lot of different people about why they do/do not work out. This always leaves me feeling disappointed. If i have to lump the reasons why most people i have met do not exercise it falls in to a few general areas
-I don’t have time (Laziness)
-I don’t know how (Laziness and poor drive to learn new skills)
-I don’t want “to get all huge” (as if that is just sooo easy)
-I don’t want it to “turn to fat if i quit” (poor understandings of the human body)
-I can’t afford the supplements (effects from 50 years of stupid bodybuilding magazine articles and the 10 billion dollar a year supplement industry)
-I can’t get big
-I can’t get strong
-I can’t lose the weight
You know what i think, stop with the excuses! Every one of the people; each and every one of them; who said they do not have the time, spend over one hour an evening watching television. In the same hour they easily could have completed a 15 minute joint mobility program, 2 sets of dead lifts and jogged for 20 minutes. That is all the average man or woman would need to stay mobile, healthy and strong. I understand there are a lot of people who have zero interest in bending steel, setting squat records, winning a bodybuilding contest or running sub 5 minute miles. I am not referring to any of those. I am talking about rolling out of bed, feeling good, and having the energy to ENJOY a PAINFREE life day to day.
All of the above reasons in my eyes fall back to the fact many people do not believe in themselves. If you do not depend on yourself to stay strong, fit and healthy, than who are you waiting for to help you? Why should any one help you?
There is only one person who can keep you fit, healthy, and ultimately happy: That is YOU.
My challenge to you is: Believe in yourself. If you don’t, than no one else will. And no one should believe in someone who can not even support them self.
The meek will not inherit the earth.

Amen brother! Disheartening as it is, the people I know are all the same. I actually talked to someone once whose excuse was that if he started lifting he would have to buy new dress shirts because he was already “pretty big” in the shoulders. Plenty of guys I work with are constantly bitching about how they’d like to get in shape, but then all they talk about are the shows they watch “religiously.” I was beginning to feel that I was the only person who saw the disconnect there.
The thing that makes me really sad though, is seeing all the people I know who “work out” regularly but are getting no results. I see these people at the gym sometimes, and they are doing swiss ball crunches, calf raises and maybe some of the cybex machines and then getting on the eliptical for a while. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
